Honoring Lordian and Maria Turner

The Lordian and Maria Turner Scholarship honors the mother and late father, Lordian and Maria Turner, of ACPS educator and alumni, Olinka Turner, whose parents believed in the value of education and the many paths that it could lead a student on. As an immigrant from Jamaica, West Indies, Lordian Turner came to the United States to continue his education. He attended Howard University in Washington, DC where he earned his Master’s Degree in Engineering and met his future wife Maria Turner, who was also attending Howard University pursuing her Bachelor’s in Geology and later went on to become an educator. As a graduate of T.C. Williams High School (c/o 1999) and a Scholarship Fund of Alexandria recipient, along with her sister Tai Turner (c/o 2002), it is their hope that this scholarship will help a senior Titan along their path to success.

As a tribute to Lordian and Maria Turner's deep belief in the power of education, this scholarship will be awarded to a member of the Class of 2024 at Alexandria City High School with financial need.


About the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria... Since 1986, thanks to the generosity of the Alexandria community, the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria has awarded nearly $18 million in scholarships and sent thousands of Alexandria's neediest students to pursue their college and career goals; students with drive and talent who might not otherwise have the chance to attend college. At today's Alexandria City High School (formerly TC Williams), two out of three students live at or below the federal poverty level. Just one scholarship can mean generations of financial stability and success for an Alexandria student and their family. Want to help make a difference?
