Let's help Ms. King understand what a huge impact she had on so many students!

Great teachers are invaluable — and there is no better example than Ms. Cora King. A first-grade teacher at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School, Ms. King has had an outsized impact on thousands throughout her career, instilling the values of dedication, leadership, and caring in her students. Ms. King completed her undergraduate degree at Virginia State University, attended graduate school at the University of Virginia, and has been a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority for 33 years. She will retire this June after 30.11 years of dedicated service, including one year spent on a Fulbright scholarship to the United Kingdom.

We who were given the great gift of having Ms. King in our children's lives plan to honor her with a scholarship for a graduating student in the ACHS Class of 2024, delivered through the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria. We hope to surprise her with this gift (among others!) at a celebration in her honor this Spring. If we raise $3000, the scholarship will last one year; if we raise $6000, it will last for two years. Every attempt will be made to place the scholarship with one of her former students. Please consider helping us honor this amazing teacher, role model and friend.

We hope you can join us at Ms. King's SURPRISE celebration at the Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School playground on June 2nd. Please arrive by 1:20 to keep it a surprise. Ms. King will arrive at 1:45.

About the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria... Since 1986, thanks to the generosity of the Alexandria community, the Scholarship Fund has awarded over $17 million in scholarships and sent more than 5,000 of Alexandria's neediest students to college--students with drive and talent who might not otherwise have the chance to attend college. At today's Alexandria City High School (formerly TC Williams), two out of three students live at or below the federal poverty level. Just one scholarship can mean generations of financial stability and success for an Alexandria student and their family. Want to help make a difference? When we all give what we can, we can create a scholarship and help change a student's life. The Scholarship Fund and its many supporters are excited to help ensure that the next generation of Alexandria students with financial need will have the opportunity to attend college. College scholarships really do change lives…forever.
